Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal data Matter (formerly Siren) collects through this website, why, and the rights you have over it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Matter is the controller of your personal data. For anything to do with your data, email info@sirendesign.co.uk.

What we collect

• When you sign up to hear from us: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.
• If you accept analytics cookies: random visitor and visit IDs, the pages you view, how far you scroll, what you click, the campaign link that brought you here, and your browser, device and approximate location (worked out from your IP address). See our cookie policy.
• When you email us: your name, email address and whatever you choose to tell us.

How we use it, and why we’re allowed to

• To send you emails about Matter, starting with our launch on October 1st. Our lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you give by signing up.
• To understand how people find and use this site, so we can improve it. Our lawful basis is your consent, given through the cookie banner.
• To reply when you get in touch. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering the people who contact us (Article 6(1)(f)).

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for automated decisions about you.

Who we share it with

We use a few trusted providers who handle data only on our instructions:

• Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) stores our mailing list and sends our emails.
• Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures visits, if you accept analytics cookies.
• Vercel Inc. hosts this website and our visitor analytics tool.

These providers may process data in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or by the UK’s International Data Transfer Addendum to the standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

• Your sign-up details stay on our list until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address on a suppression list, so we never email you again by mistake.
• Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months, then deleted.
• Emails you send us are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• have it corrected if it’s wrong, or deleted
• restrict or object to how we use it
• receive it in a portable format
• withdraw your consent at any time, by using the unsubscribe link in any of our emails or changing your cookie settings

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If we change how we use your data we’ll update this page, and tell you by email where the change is significant.
